My name is Siria, I am 16 years old (2025), and I have Spina Bifida. This means that my lower body doesn’t work as well as it should, this results in me getting fatigued quite quickly and I struggle with walking far distances. With this dance school, everyone has something going on, so I feel like I am not the only one that struggles with certain tasks. I began ballroom dancing with Ballroom Fit in 2018. Ballroom Fit is a dance school for people with disabilities; there are so many students that are eager to learn.

Since starting with Ballroom Fit, I have noticed that my confidence has increased, I feel better within myself, and I am happier overall, it has really helped my mental health, and I still notice that if I don’t dance for a while, my anxiety increases and I feel less in control. Dancing has changed my life in so many ways; I have met a lot of wonderful people both with disabilities and without. The class I have been attending since the beginning have some truly amazing people that I consider my close friends.

I dance in two categories, Recreational coach with student, this category I dance with my coach and partner, Alister, who is a very good coach and is constantly helping me improve and adapt dances to suit my abilities. The second category that I dance in is Para Combi Class 2. This category I dance with my partner Blake and we are coached my Ballroom Fit’s founder, Darryl Davenport. Blake is a great partner and has always made me fill comfortable like I belong there. I have always felt supported in every class, lesson and activity I have done with them. When I’m dancing, I feel free, my body can just move and there’s no one telling me what I can and can’t do. It is the thing that I most look forward to in my week, it brings me so much pride and joy when I succeed at competitions and see everyone happy.
