Ballroom Fit is proud to participate in the Telethon Para and Ability Dance School Program, an initiative that provides opportunities for children of all abilities to experience the joy and benefits of dance. The program brings structured, inclusive dance lessons into schools across Western Australia, ensuring that students with disabilities can access quality dance education alongside their peers.
For Ballroom Fit, participation in this program is a natural extension of our commitment to making dance accessible to everyone. As a DanceSport registered teaching facility and an NDIS registered provider, we specialise in programs that are inclusive, adaptable and focused on ability rather than limitation. The Telethon-supported program allows us to expand this vision further, working directly with schools to introduce dance in a way that is engaging, supportive and celebratory of diversity.
Our coaches deliver classes that combine the foundations of ballroom and Latin dancing with creative movement and music appreciation. Each session is tailored to meet the needs of the students, whether they are in wheelchairs, living with vision impairments, intellectual disabilities, or other conditions. We emphasise expression, coordination, rhythm and social interaction, while also ensuring that every dancer has the opportunity to succeed at their own pace.
The program not only builds dance skills but also encourages confidence, teamwork and inclusion within the school community. Teachers and support staff have expressed that the classes create a positive shift in student engagement, helping children feel a sense of achievement and belonging. For many participants, this is their first experience of structured dance, and the excitement of performing and moving to music is often transformative.
Through the Telethon Para and Ability Dance School Program, Ballroom Fit is helping to create pathways for young dancers who may later wish to continue in community classes, join performance groups, or even explore competitive Para DanceSport. By planting the seed of dance early, we are opening doors to lifelong participation in an activity that is not only physically beneficial but also socially enriching.
Ballroom Fit is honoured to collaborate with Telethon on this initiative, which aligns perfectly with our mission to champion inclusivity in dance. Together, we are showing that dance is for everyone, and that ability, not disability, is at the heart of every dancer’s journey.
Testimonials:
Colette Bailey, Teacher – Burbridge School
“The students loved attending dance classes. Every one of the students was smiling and
engaged in the lesson, and when asked afterwards how they enjoyed the lesson, they all
said they loved going. The visuals were excellent. Staff and students could easily follow
along with the lesson. The staff were also very experienced at working with students with
disabilities, which made the classes run smoothly.”
Lucy Ferguson, Teacher – Carson Street School
“The children were energetic and happy after the session. Modelling and getting involved
made it fun for the children. It was really fun, and the children were keen to join in. The
songs included actions to copy and ideas on how to simplify them for children with physical
needs or those who struggle to maintain concentration. Thanks so much! We had a great
time.”
