DanceSport Announced for the Gay Games XIII
Perth has been chosen for the Gay Games XIII, scheduled for 9 to 16 March 2030. The Gay Games are the world’s largest inclusive sporting and cultural event, championing participation, diversity, and excellence. Perth is expected to host between 8,000 and 12,000 athletes from over 80 countries, with the Games featuring up to 36 sports alongside a comprehensive cultural program.

DanceSport has long been one of the most popular and visible sports within the Gay Games movement. At the Gay Games VII in Chicago in 2006, DanceSport attracted more than 1,000 competitors over two days, highlighting the sport’s strong international appeal. At the 2030 Perth Gay Games, the DanceSport competition will be held at HBF Stadium, Mount Claremont, a venue well known for hosting major DanceSport Championships and events. The event will feature outstanding international same-sex couples, as well as social dance couples.
Australia has a proud and well-established history within the Gay Games DanceSport community, particularly through the Gay Games VI in Sydney in 2002. Sydney was the first city in the Southern Hemisphere to host the Gay Games, and DanceSport was a significant and highly visible component of the sporting program. Held in the iconic Sydney Town Hall, the DanceSport competition was a huge success.
The DanceSport legacy of Gay Games VI Sydney 2002 is directly connected to Gay Games XIII Perth 2030. OUTdance was originally established to prepare a Western Australian State Team for the Sydney Gay Games. Since that time, OUTdance has evolved into a long-standing social dance organisation, providing weekly dance classes and social opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community and allies across Western Australia. In 2026, OUTdance celebrates its 25th anniversary, with celebrations planned throughout the year to acknowledge its contribution to inclusive dance, community connection and wellbeing.
