People of Post Grants Application will be put to great use by Para and Ability Dance Western Australia.
Para and Ability Dance WA Inc. is thrilled to have been awarded funding from Australia Post through the People of Post 2026 program to produce easy-to-read DanceSport resources for dancers with disability.

The grant will enable Para and Ability Dance WA to create and distribute accessible resources designed specifically for people with disability to support inclusion, confidence, and active participation in dance. These materials will remove barriers to participation. It will strengthen our ability to reach new participants, build their confidence and independence, and enhance the inclusivity of our programs. Importantly, it will also support the broader community, families, support workers, and service providers by equipping them with the knowledge needed to better support inclusive participation in dance.
Many people with disability are interested in joining dance classes, performances, social events, and competitions; however, they lack clear, accessible information about where to begin and what to expect. These resources will bridge that gap by providing practical, easy-to-understand guidance.
The booklets will introduce different dance styles and explain, in straightforward terms, how to get involved, what happens at classes and events, and who can provide support. By presenting information in an accessible format, the project will reduce barriers, build confidence, and encourage participation in inclusive dance environments.
Currently, dance guidelines are often formal, complex, and difficult to understand, creating barriers for people with disability and their support networks. There is no single, accessible resource that clearly explains how to engage in inclusive dance activities. This project addresses that gap by bringing together practical, relevant information in a clear and inclusive way.

By helping people understand what to expect, these resources will reduce uncertainty, anxiety, and stress. Participation will become more approachable and welcoming, strengthening inclusion and encouraging greater community involvement. In turn, this will support improved mental health outcomes through increased social connection and confidence.
Being nominated for this grant is both an honour and a meaningful recognition of the work being done by Para and Ability Dance Western Australia in the community. It reflects the value placed on creating inclusive opportunities for people with disability. The nomination reinforces our commitment to expanding access to dance and motivates us to continue developing initiatives that make a genuine difference in people’s lives.
We are grateful to Australia Post for funding this project that will be undertaken by dancers with disability for dancers with disability.
